President Trump Moves to Defund Schools Teaching Far-Left Racial and Gender Ideologies
Today, President Trump signed an executive order to prohibit federal funding for K-12 schools that teach “discriminatory equity ideology” and gender ideology to children. The order also calls for a plan from various federal agencies to end indoctrination in schools and protect parental rights, and it reestablishes the 1776 Commission to promote patriotic education.
In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement cheering the president’s action:
“It is no hyperbole to say that America’s public education system is a disaster. Thanks to years of terrible policy, driven by left-wing activists and teachers unions, students have never been in worse shape—with the latest NAEP test scores showing a third of eighth graders failing to clear a basic reading level and nearly 40 percent unable to do math at a basic level.
“But even as this crisis has grown, the education establishment has continued to double down on the policies that brought us here, spending precious resources on DEI consultants, prioritizing indoctrination into left-wing ideologies like critical race theory and radical gender theory, and unnecessarily locking down schools during COVID. It’s no wonder so many children have fallen behind.
“What has happened in American education is a travesty that calls for a powerful and decisive response. Fortunately, President Trump has shown he is up to the challenge. With the executive order he has signed today, Trump has put schools nationwide on notice that we will no longer tolerate their continued failure of students. Our tax dollars should only go towards providing kids with a real education, not teaching them to discriminate based on race or confusing them about basic biology.
“We thank President Trump for fulfilling his campaign promise to bring sanity back to America’s schools, and we look forward to working with his administration to ensure this commonsense order is implemented effectively.”
