Director of Development
The Director of Development develops and implements the fundraising plan based on existing and future funding priorities. In this hands-on position, the Director develops long-term philanthropic relationships with donors, solicits major donors for annual gifts, plans and coordinates strategic steps to reach financial goals, creates donor communications, and maintains development systems. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Job Duties:
- Working with the Executive Director, develop the fundraising plan to meet organization’s financial goals.
- Work with the President, Executive Director, and other staff members to develop the best donor strategies for relationship-building and gift solicitation.
- Solicit major gifts in one-on-one meetings with donors or in conjunction with other staff members.
- Develop, execute, and monitor a direct mail program.
- Monitor and measure the effectiveness of fundraising activity (both verbal and written) to ensure goals are met.
- Oversee a master communication calendar and track current, future, and pending solicitations (direct mail) and relationship-building activity.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of the organization’s programs and funding priorities.
- Update donor database and manage other development systems.
Skill Factors:
Education: BS/BA or equivalent experience
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in direct major gift solicitation; experience managing a development office
Communications: Highly developed communication skills; strong writing skills; ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and specific program-related objectives

Major Gifts Officer
The Major Gifts Officer at American Principles Project (APP) is a critical member of the Development team, responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with major donors to support APP’s mission. The ideal candidate will be a strategic relationship-builder and adept at understanding donors’ philanthropic goals and aligning them with APP’s vision and initiatives. This role involves identifying new prospects, deepening relationships with existing donors, and working closely with the leadership team to secure major gifts and build lasting partnerships.
Job Duties:
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Build and maintain relationships with a portfolio of major donors. Engage in personalized outreach, regular communication, and face-to-face meetings to deepen donors’ commitment to APP’s mission.
- Prospect Research and Development: Identify, research, and prioritize new prospective donors. Develop strategies to engage them, presenting giving opportunities that align with their interests and APP’s funding needs.
- Gift Solicitation: Develop and implement individual fundraising plans to meet revenue goals. Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and written materials for solicitations, securing major gifts that drive APP’s work forward.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Development team and leadership to establish revenue targets, identify high-impact funding needs, and create strategies to achieve APP’s long-term fundraising objectives.
- Donor Communications: Coordinate with the Communications team to ensure consistent and meaningful donor engagement through updates, reports, newsletters, and special events. Personalize donor materials to convey the impact of their contributions.
- Event Support and Coordination: Assist in the planning and execution of donor events, such as galas, briefings, and private receptions. Coordinate logistics, prepare event briefings, and ensure high-quality donor experiences.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain detailed records of donor interactions, solicitation activities, and giving history. Ensure accurate data entry in the CRM system and provide regular reports on fundraising progress to the Development Director.
- Team Collaboration: Partner with the Development team, senior leadership, and program staff to stay informed on APP’s initiatives, priorities, and goals. Use this knowledge to inform donor conversations and create compelling cases for support.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record in major gifts. Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and securing five- or six-figure gifts is preferred.

Government Affairs Associate
The Government Affairs Associate at American Principles Project (APP) plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s public policy and advocacy initiatives. This position involves tracking legislative and regulatory developments, coordinating with key stakeholders, and advancing APP’s government relations efforts. The Associate will work closely with the Government Affairs and Communications teams to promote policy goals, build relationships with government officials, and represent APP’s interests on a variety of issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legislative and Regulatory Tracking: Monitor federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory developments relevant to APP’s interests. Provide regular updates and analyses on policy changes, trends, and potential impacts.
- Policy Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on public policy issues affecting APP’s goals and develop summaries, policy briefs, and reports to support advocacy efforts.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, government agencies, industry groups, and other key stakeholders. Schedule and prepare materials for meetings, briefings, and public events with policymakers and stakeholders.
- Advocacy and Outreach Support: Assist in planning and executing advocacy campaigns, including drafting talking points, position statements, and outreach materials to support APP’s positions on key issues.
- Communications Support: Coordinate with the Communications team to develop public messaging strategies related to government affairs activities. Assist in preparing speeches, press releases, social media content, and other materials as needed.
- Coalition Building: Participate in relevant coalitions, committees, and industry groups to represent APP’s views and collaborate on shared advocacy goals.
- Event Planning and Coordination: Support the planning and execution of government affairs events, including policy forums, conferences, and roundtable discussions. This may involve logistics coordination, securing speakers, and managing follow-up actions.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain records of government affairs activities, including legislative tracking, stakeholder engagement, and meeting notes, to ensure organized and accurate documentation of advocacy efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law or a related field.

Media Associate
APP is seeking a talented and motivated entry-level Media Associate to join our dynamic team. As a Media Associate at APP, you will play a crucial role in identifying, drafting, and creating compelling and persuasive opportunities for PR that result in content that aligns with our mission and engages our audience. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or someone early in their career to gain valuable experience in the nonprofit and political advocacy sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Write clear, concise, and engaging content for various platforms, including websites, blogs, social media, newsletters, press releases, and marketing materials. Draft talking points, video scripts, short speeches, text messages, ad scripts, and other communications material for media appearances and political campaigns.
- Rapid Response & Social Media Engagement: Provide rapid response replies on X (Twitter) and other social media platforms as needed, crafting timely, relevant content and monitoring conversations to engage effectively with followers and grow our online presence.
