Hispanic Leaders Urge House GOP to Prioritize Defunding Smithsonian’s Latino Museum

February 15, 2024

Today, a coalition of 20 Hispanic conservative leaders sent a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson urging House Republicans to stand firm against appropriating any new funding to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino.

The letter, organized by Alfonso Aguilar, director of Hispanic engagement for American Principles Project (APP), argues that the manipulation of the museum project by left-wing ideologues to promote their own views should make its defunding a priority for the GOP:

“Taxpayer money should not be used to promote any type of ideological perspectives to the public, especially when, as in this case, it offers a distorted and offensive description of an entire group of American citizens.

“The reality is that providing more funding for the museum at this time will only embolden the Leftist ideologues that control it.  And, once the museum is fully established and built, Congress will be practically powerless to demand any changes.”
