APP Cheers Senate Confirmation of Nathan Simington to FCC

December 8, 2020

Today, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm President Trump’s nominee to the Federal Communications Commission, Nathan Simington, by a vote of 49-46.

In response, Jon Schweppe, director of policy and government affairs for American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement cheering the vote:

Today’s confirmation of Nathan Simington to the FCC is a huge win in the fight for Internet freedom and for free speech online. We applaud the Senate — and specifically Majority Leader Mitch McConnell — for making this a priority and getting this done. We also urge the Senate to continue to prioritize the confirmation of President Trump’s appointees.

In addition to supporting Simington’s confirmation to the FCC, APP has publicly urged the Senate to confirm President Trump’s Federal Election Commission appointees to ensure a quorum so the agency can adjudicate potential violations of campaign finance law. The FEC has been unable to function for the majority of 2020.
