APP Applauds Senate Confirmation of FEC Commissioners

December 9, 2020

Today, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm President Trump’s three nominees to the Federal Election Commission: Republicans Allen Dickerson and Sean Cooksey, and Democrat Shana Broussard. The confirmations will allow the FEC to carry out its full mission after it had been constrained for months by the lack of a quorum.

American Principles Project (APP) had been publicly urging the Senate since October to confirm the President’s FEC nominees in order to enable the agency to conduct business.

In response to the votes, Jon Schweppe, APP’s director of policy and government affairs, released the following statement:

While it may not get much coverage, the Senate’s decision today to confirm the President’s nominees to the FEC is an important step toward shoring up the integrity of America’s elections. With all that has happened in the run-up to and aftermath of this past month’s election, it is critical that the FEC be able to address the various issues that come before it. Now it will be able to do so, and APP applauds the Senate for making that possible.
