At SOTU Tonight, Trump Can Highlight Pro-Family Presidency
Tonight, President Trump will give the third official State of the Union address of his presidency. In his speech, the President will have the opportunity to highlight the most important accomplishments of his first term as well as outline a vision for his 2020 reelection campaign.
In advance of the address, Terry Schilling, executive director of American Principles Project, released the following statement urging President Trump to make the American family a prominent theme of his remarks:
President Trump’s first three years in office have been nothing short of a boon for American families. As the Trump economy has soared to new heights, many working parents have finally seen their wages grow after years of stagnation. The President’s signature tax cuts have provided countless families with greater financial flexibility thanks to the increased standard deduction and child tax credit. And thanks to the FIRST STEP Act signed by the President, our criminal justice system has been reformed to prioritize the reunification of families.
Tonight, President Trump will have the chance to rightly tout this incredible record of pro-family accomplishments. He will also be able to highlight new policy priorities to further strengthen families, including a paid family leave plan, educational choice, and parental rights. As his Democrat opponents continue to move to the extreme left, the President has been given a prime opportunity to draw a strong contrast by positioning himself as a champion of the American family. We encourage him to make the most of it, and we expect he will.
