Girl Athletes File Lawsuit After Being Forced to Compete Against Males

February 13, 2020

This week, three high school girl athletes in Connecticut filed a lawsuit against the state’s athletic conference, arguing that the state’s policy allowing biological males to compete in girl’s sports violates their right to a fair playing field under Title IX. Since Connecticut changed its policy in 2017, two male track and field athletes have won 15 women’s championship titles in the state.

American Principles Project (APP) has worked in recent years to draw attention to attacks on biological reality in school sports, most notably running a high-profile digital ad campaign on the issue during the 2019 Kentucky gubernatorial race. APP plans to duplicate this effort in a number of important swing states during this year’s presidential election.

Last year in a column for The Daily Caller, APP executive director Terry Schilling also made a detailed case for how President Trump could save women’s sports nationwide. You can read that piece here.

In response to the Connecticut lawsuit, Schilling released the following statement supporting the girl athletes:

Every athlete deserves a fair chance to compete. This isn’t a difficult concept to understand. And yet in recent years, leftists have been pushing to throw this principle under the bus in their crusade to eliminate biological sex from law. Unfortunately, in Connecticut and elsewhere, girl athletes are the ones paying the price.

Thankfully, a few young women in Connecticut are now courageously standing up for their right to a fair and equal playing field, a right which should never have been denied to them. APP fully supports them in this battle, and we call on all our nation’s leaders, including President Trump, to do everything in their authority to uphold fair competition in school athletics. Voters will be watching.
