In his State of the Union address tonight, Joe Biden renewed his previous calls to pass the so-called “Equality Act,” legislation which would write “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” into civil rights law.

In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement blasting Biden’s remarks:

“From his presidential campaign until now, Joe Biden has been consistent in backing the transgender industry’s war on the family. Tonight, he doubled down on his support for that war.

“Biden claims he only wishes to ensure people ‘can live with safety and dignity.’ But in reality, the legislation he promotes would weaponize the federal government against Americans who recognize basic biology. It threatens to force doctors to perform sex changes against their best judgment, even on minors, and compel schools to allow biological males in girls’ private spaces and sports. It would override the laws of many states which have attempted to protect vulnerable kids and their families from the predatory transgender industry.

“Biden’s agenda is anti-family to its core, and it cannot be allowed to succeed. Congressional Republicans must continue to reject the so-called ‘Equality Act,’ and leaders at the federal and state levels must do everything possible to oppose this administration’s attempt to enact the bill’s provisions by other means. GOP candidates in 2024 should also make sure voters know exactly how extreme Democrats are and the threat they pose to American families.”
