APP Supports Graham Resolution Condemning Impeachment Process

October 25, 2019

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), joined by 45 fellow senators, introduced a resolution condemning House Democrats for breaking longstanding precedent and denying basic due process rights to President Trump in their closed-door impeachment inquiry.

In response, Terry Schilling, executive director of American Principles Project, released the following statement supporting the resolution:

President Trump and Senate Republicans are absolutely right to be outraged about the way House Democrats are conducting their impeachment inquiry. If Democrat leaders truly had the good of the country in mind, they would not be pursuing this process behind closed doors, out of sight of the American people and where the President cannot defend himself. Instead, by tossing aside decades of precedent, they have clearly revealed their highly partisan intent.

Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised, given that Democrats have been calling for impeachment since President Trump’s first day in office. Nevertheless, their politicization of this process is a travesty, and we commend Senator Graham and his Republican colleagues for calling attention to this reality.
