APP Hails Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

June 24, 2022

Today, the Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that state restrictions on abortion are constitutional, overturning the Court’s previous holding in Roe v. Wade. The decision puts abortion policy back under control of state governments.

In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP) released the following statement applauding the ruling:

“For decades, our country has been deeply divided by the issue of abortion. However, because of the Supreme Court’s flagrant overreach in Roe v. Wade, the American people have been unable to work out these differences via the democratic process. Instead, over the last half century, the opinion of seven unelected judges has paralyzed the nation.

“Today, finally, that error has been rectified. Justice Alito is correct that Roe was ‘egregiously wrong from the start,’ and thanks to his courage and that of his colleagues on the Court, decisions on the legality of abortion will now be returned where they rightfully belong: the citizenry. Anyone who claims to care about ‘our democracy’ should be elated at this result.

“Of course, the end of Roe does not mean the issue of abortion is settled. Pro-lifers understand that our work has only just begun; we must now convince voters to support protections for the unborn at the ballot box. But we are ready for this fight, and we look forward to engaging politically to ensure one day that all lives, both born and unborn, are once again afforded the full recognition they deserve throughout our nation.”
