New APP Poll: Hispanics Shifting to Trump in Battleground States

March 21, 2024

WASHINGTON — Today, American Principles Project (APP) released a new poll showing Republicans continuing to gain ground with Hispanics in two key swing states.

The survey of 500 likely general election Hispanic voters in Arizona and Nevada, conducted by OnMessage Inc., shows Donald Trump running very close to Joe Biden in both states. In a two-way, head-to-head matchup, Trump and Biden are deadlocked among Hispanics in Arizona (46%-46%), while Biden leads by a mere two points in Nevada (42%-40%).

The poll also revealed deep opposition among Hispanics to Democrats’ extremism on cultural issues and support for conservative attempts to push back, including:

  • 60% support laws that prevent transgender-identifying males from competing in women’s sports.
  • 57% support banning puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for transgender-identifying children under 18.
  • 64% support requiring schools to notify parents if their child begins identifying as transgender.
  • 67% support limiting abortion after 12 weeks, with exceptions for rape, incest, danger to the life of the mother, and severe birth defects.
  • 57% oppose the use of the label “Latinx” to describe their community.
  • 79% agree that many in America “are too focused on race, and this only divides us and causes social tension.”
  • 67% agree that schools should stick to basic subjects and leave “sex and racial issues” to parents.

You can find the full poll results here.

APP’s Director of Hispanic Engagement Alfonso Aguilar released the following statement responding to the polling:

“Joe Biden and Democrats should be very worried. Although for years they have taken the Hispanic vote for granted, their far-left extremism is finally driving many Hispanics to reconsider Republican candidates like Donald Trump who are closer to their values.

“Of course, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Hispanics, like most Americans, don’t agree with the radical idea that men can magically become women, and vice versa. They want to protect their children from being indoctrinated into gender confusion in schools and being preyed upon by a transgender industry eager to turn them into lifelong medical patients.

“Hispanics also reject the narrative of victimhood the left is trying to advance at their expense. They still believe in the American dream, and they reject left-wing attempts to racialize society.

“It’s clear Democrats are rapidly losing Hispanic support, and the opportunity is ripe for conservatives to make our political case. That’s why APP is committed this year to bringing our message directly to Hispanic voters in states like Arizona and Nevada where they will play a critical role in the next election. And we also encourage GOP candidates in these states and nationwide to lean into the culture war—drawing a strong contrast will only benefit Republicans, both with Hispanics and all Americans.”
