House Passes SCREEN Act Requiring Age Verification on Adult Websites
Landmark child protection bill passes 267-117 and heads to the Senate
Washington, D.C. – June 28, 2026 – This evening the House of Representatives passed a landmark bill, the SCREEN Act, which would require adult websites to verify the age of their users before distributing adult content. The bill passed 267-117 in a suspension vote.
APP President Terry Schilling released the following statement:
“Age verification is a major win for families fed up with how easy it is for kids to fall into porn online. Congress has finally taken meaningful steps to stop kids from easily accessing material linked to addiction, despair, and a warped sense of meaningful relationships. The porn industry and tech titans have built a multi-billion-dollar enterprise off of exploitation, but they are no match for the millions of parents who are united in this effort to protect their children online. Now it is up to the Senate to finish the job and pass the SCREEN Act.”
The bill, introduced by Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.) and included as part of the larger KIDS Act package by House Energy & Commerce Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.), now heads to the Senate.
This victory has been years in the making. The American Principles Project (APP) has long advocated for age verification, first working with Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) to introduce federal legislation on this issue nearly six years ago, and working actively with state legislators to pass age verification laws in more than two dozen states.
Age verification for adult websites is an extremely popular policy. In March, Cygnal conducted a poll showing that 81% of voters supported a federal bill like the SCREEN Act. APP urges the Senate to swiftly pass these vital protections for children and families.
