APP Releases Memo Outlining Winning Midterm Strategy for GOP Candidates
Document urges continued aggression on culture-war issues, populist economic message
Washington, D.C. – September 17, 2026 – Today, American Principles Project (APP) released a memo to GOP candidates laying out a strategy for political success in the upcoming midterm election. The document highlights attack lines which recently commissioned message testing suggests are most effective: tying Democrats to their unpopular positions on transgender and DEI issues. The memo also draws attention to Republicans’ lack of a coherent message on the economy, urging the GOP to adopt a populist approach as they did in 2016 and 2024.
APP’s President Terry Schilling released the following statement:
“Past political trends suggest that the GOP should lose the midterms. But our present data shows that the American people still have no taste for the obscene radicalism of the left. Voters still favor Republicans when it comes to cultural issues such as transgenderism and DEI. We need to keep pressuring Democrats in these areas.
However, staying on offense in the culture war, while important, may not be sufficient. Republicans also need a robust, populist economic message. We need to show American families that alleviating their financial distress is a top priority. If we do this, the GOP might well buck historical precedent and win in November.”
