President Trump Signs Executive Orders to Remove Gender Ideology, DEI from US Military

January 28, 2025

Yesterday, President Trump signed a package of executive orders aimed at reversing various left-wing ideological programs in the US military, fulfilling a campaign promise to depoliticize our nation’s armed services. Those actions included:

  • Reinstating a previous directive restricting individuals with gender dysphoria from serving in the military and requiring military members to use bathrooms and other facilities that correspond with their biological sex.
  • Eliminating military programs that discriminate based on race and sex, including DEI programs.

Last year, American Principles Project (APP) released a documentary, “Culture War: The Deadly Consequences of a Woke War Machine,” showing how the Biden-Harris administration’s injection of woke policies into the military helped lead directly to the disastrous and deadly Afghanistan withdrawal. APP’s affiliated super PAC also ran political ads on this topic during the fall campaign.

In response to Trump’s actions, APP President Terry Schilling released the following statement:

“There was a time when America prided itself on having the most effective and lethal fighting force in the world. But lately, thanks to Democrats, our military has itself become a battleground in the far left’s culture war. Instead of focusing on winning conflicts, recent policies have prioritized bringing back racial discrimination and adopting the latest gender fads. The results have been predictably destructive.

“Fortunately, however, this era of social experimentation in our military is now over. With his executive orders this week, President Trump is returning our armed forces to their original mission of defending our nation and its citizens and ensuring that this goal, not left-wing ideology, determines policy at the Pentagon. We thank President Trump for his consistent, tireless leadership on this issue, and we look forward to continuing to work with him and Secretary Hegseth to once again establish America’s military as the world’s best.”
