Trump Admin Takes Action to Protect Title IX, Women’s Sports

September 18, 2020

This month, the Trump administration has reportedly begun taking steps to ensure federal tax dollars are not used to subsidize violations of girl athletes’ civil rights under Title IX.

According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Department of Education has asked a number of Connecticut magnet schools which receive federal grants to affirm that they will not participate in sporting events under the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference until the league changes its policy allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports — which the Department has found is a violation of Title IX.

In response, Terry Schilling, executive director of American Principles Project, released the following statement praising the administration’s decision:

Even in these polarizing times, if there is one thing that unites almost all Americans, it’s that girl athletes deserve a fair and equal playing field. APP polling this summer of ten battleground states found that over 75 percent of voters, across the political spectrum, oppose allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports — and it’s likely they don’t want their tax dollars supporting this either.

Nevertheless, very few leaders have had the courage to stand up against our radical leftist elites on this issue. But President Trump and Secretary Betsy DeVos stand out as admirable exceptions. They have been unwavering in their support of the civil rights of girl and women athletes, and they have taken strong action to defend these rights despite the many vicious attacks they have faced for doing so.

APP stands with the American people in supporting President Trump and Secretary DeVos in this fight, and we commend them for all they have done and continue to do to protect women’s sports.

The battle over women’s sports also made its way into the news earlier this week when an American Principles Project PAC digital ad attacking Joe Biden and Democrats for supporting policies that would threaten women’s sports was removed from Facebook after a review by PolitiFact found it was “missing context.” You can read more about that story at The Federalist here.
