On Friday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed SB 14, banning the prescription of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries to children for the purposes of attempting to change their sex. Texas is one of 19 states which have acted to restrict these procedures in some capacity.

In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP) released the following statement cheering the law:

“‘Sex changes’ are not health care. Despite the attempts by the medical establishment to push vulnerable children and their families into these procedures, they cannot ultimately hide the truth. Sterilizing and mutilating kids simply because they are uncomfortable in their bodies is criminal malpractice, and lawmakers are finally, and rightly, beginning to treat it as such.

“Gov. Abbott and Texas legislators should be commended for acting to protect the children of their state. APP thanks them for safeguarding Texas families, and we continue to urge the remaining states without such protections to adopt them as quickly as possible.”
