New Poll: Transgender Issue Ads Moved Voters to Trump, Republicans
WASHINGTON — Today, American Principles Project (APP) released a new poll, conducted by Cygnal, measuring the vote impact of campaign ads on various transgender-related issues in the 2024 election.
The national poll of 1,500 voters, conducted from November 11-13, found that over half of voters recalled seeing, reading, or hearing ads about Kamala Harris’s and Democrats’ extreme positions on transgender issues, with those voters breaking for Donald Trump by a significant margin.
Each of the messages on these issues proved effective in moving voters toward Trump:
- 52% of voters who were made aware of Harris’s support for sex changes for minors were more likely to vote for Trump.
- 50% of voters who were made aware of Harris’s support for taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners were more likely to vote for Trump.
- 47% of voters who were made aware of Harris’s support for allowing men to compete in women’s sports were more likely to vote for Trump.
- 45% of voters who were exposed to the Trump campaign’s “Kamala is for they/them, Trump is for you” message were more likely to vote for Trump.
Voters also continue to support laws prohibiting biological men from competing in women’s sports (54-26) and banning sex changes for minors (48-34) by large margins.
You can find the full topline results here and a detailed analysis of the polling and crosstabs here.
APP President Terry Schilling released the following statement on the findings:
“The evidence is now incontrovertible: the culture war is a winner for Republicans.
“After trying and failing for years to neutralize cultural issues by avoiding them, the GOP under Trump finally went on offense and attacked Democrats on their radicalism, particularly on transgender issues. The election results this year ought to speak for themselves, but as our polling shows, Republican ads had a major impact on voters, helping put Trump back into the White House and giving the GOP full control of Congress.
“There should be no question now that Democrats’ gender insanity is a massive political vulnerability for them that Republicans should continue to exploit. As the GOP prepares to take power in Washington next year, we urge them not to forget the main lesson from the election and to keep the pressure on Democrats for as long as they continue to defend their extreme agenda.”
