Child Safety, Age Verification Take Center Stage in House
APP urges passage of SCREEN Act and App Store Accountability Act
Washington, D.C. – June 10, 2026 – According to reports this week, the U.S. House of Representatives is moving towards votes on online child safety legislation. The American Principles Project (APP) is urging House leaders to prioritize the SCREEN Act and App Store Accountability Act in any package of bills that advances.
APP President Terry Schilling issued the following statement:
“The House has the opportunity to score an historic victory for parents and children, finally forcing Big Tech to stop treating kids as profit centers and start treating them as children who deserve real protection.
“These commonsense reforms enjoy overwhelming bipartisan support, with polls showing that supermajorities of voters—including strong majorities of Democrats—back mandatory age verification on adult websites and app stores. Congress has heard the voice of families loud and clear: the time for action is now. The SCREEN Act and App Store Accountability Act will ensure that families can properly safeguard their children online.”
The bills each provide parents real tools—mandatory age verification for adult websites and stronger oversight of app stores—to block minors from explicit content and predatory platforms that put profits ahead of safety. By putting families first, these bills take an important step toward protecting childhood innocence and mental health from Big Tech’s unchecked reach.
