Twitter Censors Rep. Vicky Hartzler for Defending Women’s Sports

February 28, 2022

According to reports today, U.S. Senate candidate and Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) was locked out of her Twitter account after tweeting that “Women’s Sports are for Women, not men pretending to be women.”

In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement blasting the social media platform:

“Here we go again. After taking unprecedented steps in 2020 to swing the vote to Democrats, Big Tech companies are once again ramping up their election interference on behalf of the woke left.

“Rep. Hartzler’s message was a simple one: biological males should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports. Numerous polls have shown that her view is shared by a strong majority of Americans. And yet, because a few people at Twitter see this view as “hateful,” Hartzler is now banned from one of the internet’s largest platforms, just as primaries are starting nationwide.

“Such actions should not surprise us at this point. Two years ago, American Principles Project PAC had campaign ads about protecting women’s sports removed by Facebook for similarly bogus reasons. Yet, incredibly, some Republicans still seem hesitant to address this increasingly brazen meddling in our elections.

“This reluctance must end immediately. If the GOP expects to take back Congress, leadership must put forward a concrete plan to end this malfeasance. The online deplatforming of public officials for stating perfectly legitimate (and, in Rep. Hartzler’s case, obviously correct) views cannot be tolerated in a country that claims to value free speech.”
