Director of Communications
American Principles Project (APP), the nation’s premier organization defending the family in politics, is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Director of Communications. This senior role will lead APP’s communications strategy, ensuring that our message is impactful, consistent, and widely heard. The Director will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications plan, with particular emphasis on high-level writing, strategic media engagement, and brand leadership.
The Director will work closely with APP’s President, Executive Director, and other senior leaders to craft compelling narratives that advance APP’s mission and strategic objectives, while maintaining excellence across all communications platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and oversee APP’s overall communications strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and proactive engagement in the national conversation.
- Executive Speechwriting: Draft and edit speeches, remarks, and talking points for APP’s senior leadership, particularly the President and Executive Director.
- Message Development: Write and edit op-eds, press releases, statements, podcast episodes, and other major external communications projects.
- Media & Public Relations: Serve as primary media liaison—managing press inquiries, cultivating journalist relationships, and elevating APP’s presence in national outlets.
- Editorial Excellence: Ensure all written materials reflect the highest standards of clarity, grammar, style, and political messaging.
- Content Oversight: Supervise creation of branded content, event scripts, fundraising materials, and digital messaging to reinforce APP’s brand and reach.
- Internal & Donor Communications: Support leadership in producing board updates, internal reports, and donor communications.
- Executive Preparation: Develop briefing materials and key messaging documents to prepare APP leaders for interviews, panels, and public appearances.
- Team Collaboration: Manage and mentor communications staff, interns, or contractors, fostering a high-performing and creative communications team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an eye for detail.
- Excellent research skills and the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible content.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems.
- Creative thinker with the ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for public policy and a commitment to the principles of the American Principles Project.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SEO best practices and digital marketing techniques.
- Previous experience in a nonprofit, political, or advocacy setting.

Fundraising Associate
Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Fundraising Associate to play a key role in supporting our fundraising and donor relations efforts. This role is essential to maintaining the integrity of our donor database, tracking fundraising metrics, and working closely with both the Director of Data Operations and Director of Development to execute our overall fundraising strategies The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills, a passion for building relationships, and the ability to professionally represent APP.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the donor database (CRM), ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
- Process donations, generate acknowledgment letters, and track donor communications to facilitate personalized communication with donors.
- Create and analyze reports on donor-giving trends, campaign performance, and fundraising metrics to assist in data-driven decision-making and strategy.
- Assist in donor segmentation, prospect research, and data-driven fundraising strategies.
- Facilitate donor relations efforts by communicating with donors regularly, in writing and verbally to ensure continued engagement and support of APP’s mission.
- Support event planning by managing invite lists, tracking attendance, and compiling post-event reports.
- Work with the development team to ensure seamless data entry and reconciliation with finance records.
- Improve and implement best practices for data hygiene, donor record management, and reporting.
Experience/Education/Qualification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent Associate’s Degree or higher
- Experience with donor databases/CRM systems (Salesforce, Pipedrive, Raiser’s Edge, or similar).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
- Experience generating and interpreting reports to support fundraising efforts.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Impressive communication and organizational skills.
- Previous experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or data management is a plus.

Internships
Each semester, interns play a critical role in helping APP promote and defend the family. We are always seeking energetic interns interested in joining the team to help with both policy-related and administrative responsibilities.
Some of the typical day-to-day tasks handled by APP interns include conducting research and analysis for the organization’s programs, drafting statements and press releases, attending meetings or events on behalf of APP, answering phones, receiving office guests, distributing mail, and running other errands as needed.
A modest monthly stipend may be offered to interns to offset travel and other costs associated with the internship.
