SCOTUS Upholds Parents’ Right to Opt Out Their Kids from Sexually Explicit Classroom Instruction

June 27, 2025

WASHINGTON — Today, in Mahmoud v. Taylor, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld parents’ right to opt out their children from receiving inappropriate and sexually explicit classroom instruction. This ruling is a huge victory for parental rights and religious liberty and APP President, Terry Schilling, outlined the facts and importance of this case in a recent op-ed.

Terry Schilling also released the following statement on SCOTUS’ monumental decision:

“Today, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the American family. Parents are the gatekeepers of their child’s education. When they send their kids off to school, they trust their kids will be educated, not indoctrinated, and at the very least, should be able to opt out of inappropriate classroom instruction. I am grateful the Supreme Court agrees. Their decision today ensures parents, not the government, manage their child’s education.”
