The Press Associate at American Principles Project (APP) plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s communications initiatives. This position involves drafting press releases, op-eds and press statements, working with reporters and assisting the communications team in promoting APP’s message on a variety of issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating Media Bookings: Manages coordinating media bookings and requests for APP forward-facing principals. 
  • Drafts Press Materials: Writes talking points for media hits, press releases and op-ed for the communications team and APP principals. Also assist in preparing media kits, press briefs, and responses to media inquiries. 
  • Monitor Media Coverage: Manages monitoring media coverage and compiles clippings or reports for the communications team. 
  • Build Reporter Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with reporters, bookers and key influencers in order to help break news. 
  • Capitalize on Media Cycles: Work with the press team to capitalize on media cycles and create news opportunities for APP.  
  • Assist with Digital Communication Support: Assist with website updates, including uploading content and ensuring accuracy and collaborate with the graphic design team to create visually engaging content. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Journalism, Communications or a related field. 
  • Excellent research, analytical, and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus. 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with the media.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous press or communications experience is preferred.
