Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. She was 87 years old.
In response to the news, Terry Schilling, executive director of American Principles Project, released the following statement:
Firstly, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the entire Ginsburg family during this time. As someone whose father is currently fighting cancer, I recognize the terrible toll of this disease on those who suffer from it and their loved ones, and I pray all those who were close to Justice Ginsburg find peace and comfort in the difficult days ahead.
Justice Ginsburg’s passing leaves a significant vacancy on the Supreme Court at a critical time for our nation. Given the likelihood of a contested election, it is paramount that the Supreme Court be at full strength to address whatever challenges may arise. The Senate has an obligation to urgently consider President Trump’s nomination to the Court once it is made, and we are confident they will do so.
We look forward in the coming weeks to helping confirm the best justice possible.
